Theme Essay

Trees and flowers are an important part of life. If trees all of the sudden disappeared where would mankind be? If flowers disappeared where would beauty be? Mankind needs flowers and trees; big or small, size doesn’t matter. They are a symbol of life. They represent how life goes on when all goes wrong. They are an incarnation of the subsistence of human-beings.

The first part of my theme is the importance of trees. For example, trees provide oxygen. This is important because we could not exist as we do if there were no trees. A mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year. What many people don't realize is the forest also acts as a giant filter that cleans the air we breathe. Furthermore, trees control noise pollution. Trees muffle urban noise almost as effectively as stone walls. Trees, planted at strategic points in a neighborhood or around your house, can abate major noises from freeways and airports.

The second part of my theme is the importance of flowers. Flowers have been used in medicinal applications around the world for centuries. In herbal medicine, flowers and their extracts are used to treat a wide range of ailments. Linden flowering herbs are used in many cough and cold products and are thought to help promote sweating for treating fevers, though there is no scientific proof to back this claim, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

In conclusion, people do not recognize the truly pure importance of flowers and trees. Day by day, week by week, and month by month, people go on with their daily lives not giving the trees or flowers even a second thought. That is why I painted flowers and trees, to show the true importance of trees and flowers.

Theme Statement
I am using acrylic paint to paint images of nature. I want to communicate
that nature is an important part of life. I am concerned that people do not know
the importance of nature because they use nature’s resources like it will never
run out.  Nature is important not
because it gives us our daily resources, but it is part of mankind.
